Guided by Africa's Champions
ANCOM is part of The World Colonization Memorial — an international tribute to honor millions killed worldwide during colonization and the transatlantic slave trade.
--About Our Leadership
ANCOM Leadership: Honoring Africa’s History, Inspiring Its Future
Football has historically served as a powerful force for unity across Africa and beyond. African football players have carried more than the colors of their respective nations; they have carried the hopes, dreams, and pride of millions.
Across the continent and throughout the global African diaspora, the achievements of African footballers have transcended sport. Their journeys have inspired generations of young people to believe in themselves, brought communities together across borders and cultures, and demonstrated to the world the extraordinary talent, resilience, discipline, and dignity of Africa and its people.
ANCOM is being established as an educational and commemorative platform dedicated to preserving the memory of the millions of Africans whose lives, families, and communities were devastated by colonization. At the same time, ANCOM seeks to create a meaningful pathway toward remembrance, healing, unity, cultural pride, and hope for future generations.
We believe the voices and leadership of Africa’s football legends can help bring this mission to life and make it resonate powerfully with a new generation.
These distinguished athletes have already achieved what few others can claim. They have won medals, trophies, championships, and the admiration of millions. The generation that watched them play will forever remember their goals, performances, and victories.
But the generations that follow have an opportunity to remember them for something even greater: that when the moment came to help preserve Africa’s history, honor its ancestors, strengthen connections among its people, and inspire its future, they answered the call.
Their boots may have left the pitch, but their leadership does not have to end there. Africa continues to need its champions. The African diaspora continues to need bridges that connect people, cultures, and histories. And our shared history continues to need responsible guardians who will preserve it, educate future generations about it, and ensure that it is never forgotten.
We therefore invite esteemed retired African football legends who wish to extend their influence beyond the sporting arena to lend their voices, experience, credibility, and leadership to the ANCOM initiative.
--Board of Directors
ANCOM Board of Directors
The legacy of African football players on the pitch has inspired millions across the continent and around the world. They have played a powerful role in shaping the global perception of Africa — bridging cultures, inspiring youth, and amplifying African voices. As respected figures nationally and internationally, they have not only represented sporting excellence but also embodied leadership, resilience, and pride in African identity.
We invite retired African footballers who wish to extend their influence beyond the sport to consider joining the ANCOM Board of Directors.
As Board Members, They Would Help:
- Shape the long-term vision and educational mission of the memorial
- Support international awareness and partnerships
- Inspire young Africans through cultural and historical engagement
- Ensure that African voices and leadership remain central to telling Africa's story
Their involvement would send a strong message that Africa’s champions, both on and off the field, are dedicated to preserving history and empowering future generations.
-- Governance Model
A Continental and Multidisciplinary Governance Model
While the involvement of football legends would provide ANCOM with tremendous visibility, inspiration, and a powerful connection to the African public, we recognize that the initiative requires a broader foundation of expertise. A leadership structure composed exclusively of football personalities could lack the governance, academic, cultural, and diplomatic depth necessary to establish and sustain an institution of this significance.
For this reason, we envision a hybrid Board of Trustees in which distinguished football legends serve as visible ambassadors and anchors of unity, working alongside respected experts who can provide the institutional knowledge, scholarly rigor, governance, and strategic leadership required for long-term success.
This multidisciplinary model would enable ANCOM to be simultaneously emotionally compelling, intellectually credible, culturally grounded, and globally respected.
ANCOM’s governance structure will therefore be continental in character rather than centered on any single African nation. The proposed Board of Trustees and advisory leadership will draw representation and expertise from across Africa’s five regions, as well as from the global African diaspora.
The institution will seek to bring together accomplished individuals from fields including:
History and historical scholarship
Education and youth development
Arts, culture, and heritage preservation
Architecture and memorial design
Museum and cultural-institution leadership
Diplomacy and international relations
Community and civic leadership
Traditional and community elders
African diaspora organizations and institutions
Football and other sporting communities
Together, these voices can help ensure that ANCOM reflects the diversity of Africa and its people while maintaining the highest standards of scholarship, governance, cultural integrity, and international engagement.
The participation of Africa’s football legends would therefore represent more than honorary recognition. It would be an opportunity for these respected figures to transform the influence they have on the football field into a lasting legacy of memory, unity, dignity, cultural pride, and hope.
Their greatest contribution may ultimately be remembered not only for what they achieved in football, but for how they used their platform to help Africa remember its past, strengthen its present, and inspire its future.
-- Goodwill Ambassadors
ANCOM Goodwill Ambassadors
Many African footballers represent their countries out of deep respect for their heritage and national pride. Their achievements on the field have inspired millions across our continent and beyond. Their legacy and influence can help bring dignity to this remembrance and unite people around a powerful story of heritage, reflection, and hope.
We invite Esteemed Retired African Football Legends who wish to extend their influence beyond the sport to once again represent their nation as ANCOM Goodwill Ambassadors — an initiative dedicated to remembering our shared history, honoring resilience, and educating future generations.
We look forward to discussing this opportunity with you and sharing more details about the memorial’s mission, leadership team, and upcoming milestones.
